Dear Community Members,

Salaamun Alaykum,

With the loss of so many lives around the world as a result of various terrorist attacks, it's been a difficult month for the Muslim Ummah at large. Let us take a moment to remember those who have lost their lives, as a result of the recent attacks in Medina, Qatif, Baghdad, Dhaka, Istanbul and Orlando and those who are under constant attack, for example in Syria. We pray for all those affected and may the Muslim Ummah unite and strive to show the true message of Islam through our works and actions.

As you do your Eid a’maals, let us pray for all those affected by acts of terror around the world.

Imam Ali (as) has defined Eid as "any day that is free of rebellion (or disobedience) against Allah swt." He is quoted as saying “’Eid is for those whose fasts have been accepted and whose salaat are worthy of reckoning and every day when one does not commit a sin it is Eid” (Nahjul Balaghah, Maxim no. 428).

The day of Eid al Fitr brings glad tidings to the believers and is a day of joy and spreading goodness across the globe. It is that day after a month long of fasting, that the human soul returns to its original state of purity with the objective of maintaining this state not only for the rest of the year but for the rest of one’s life. We should strive to continue working to better ourselves throughout the year, as we do during this Holy month. This is the true celebration of Eid al Fitr.

This month of Ramadan, I am proud to share that, together, we have distributed £1m worth of aid to individuals in need in over 14 countries. The Holy month of Ramadan is one where giving to charity and helping others is highly recommended and, Alhamdulillah, together we managed to help many families. We will inshAllah issue a report so you can all see firsthand the difference your donations have made. As an organisation, we are so grateful to all of you who donated to our Ramadan Relief Fund and to all of our appeals throughout the year. Without your consistent support, we wouldn’t be able to change the lives of so many.

The month of Ramadan is a time to strengthen our relationship with the Holy Qur’an and keeping this in mind, Shaykh Kumail Rajani, our Head of Islamic Education, started the Qur’anic Word of the Day initiative. The purpose of this was to spread the word of the Qur’an and allow us to learn the definitions of some Qur’anic words and phrases during this month. This has proven extremely popular with muslims and non-muslims alike and Alhamdulillah, we have received some wonderful feedback. InshAllah we will now be using some of these phrases in our daily lives.

Some of you may also have seen the community survey that will inshAllah help us with our strategic review for the next 10 years. If you have not yet had the chance to complete this survey, please do so as your views and ideas are really important to us. The survey will only take 15 minutes and will help shape our organisation for the next 10 years so that we can better serve our community.

Lastly, as we celebrate this day of Eid al Fitr, let us endeavor to build unity in our communities and be mindful of the needs of others. Zakat-al-Fitrah ensures the acceptance of our fasts and Imam Sadiq (as) has said: “Fasts remain suspended between the heavens and the earth until the fitrah is fulfilled. More details on Fitrah, Fidyah and Kaffarah can be found on The World Federation website.

True rejoicing of Eid is to obey Allah (swt) and to serve humanity. On behalf of my Office Bearers, the staff and our volunteers at The World Federation of KSIMC, I extend our warmest and heartiest Eid greetings to Imam-e-Zamana (atfs) and I wish each one of you and your families a very blessed Eid al Fitr. May Allah (swt) accept your prayers, your a’maals and your kindness. May He fill this earth with peace and justice always.

With Salaams and Duas,

Dr Asgar Moledina
President, The World Federation of KSIMC
