During my two day stay in Najaf, I had the opportunity to sit in the fiqh classes of Sayyed Muhammad Raza, which start at 7.15 a.m. and last for 30 minutes.
Dr Mohammad Jafar Elmi was the founder of the Islamic College and served as its principal from 1998-2007 and from December 2011 to 2015. He also served as a senior lecturer at the Islamic College. He completed his PhD at the University of Birmingham with a concentration on the philosophical hermeneutics of ‘Allamah Muhammad Husayn Tabataba’i, the renowned Shi‘a exegete.
He was A great scholar who used to embrace new ideas and challanges. He was among those who saught Western education to enhance his research methodology and preach the message of Ahlulbayt (as) in that language. His dedication to the publication was praise worthy and Journal of Shi'a Islamic study is the testimony of his zeal and passion in which he served as chief editor for a long term.
He passed away on Thursday 2nd June 2016 and was buried on Friday 3rd June. Please recite Suratal Fatiha for the departed soul.
