A Deeper understanding into Dua Arafat

13 Tips to help you prepare for Dua Arafat

Dua of Arafat is a supplication revealed by Imam Hussein (as) and it is highly recommended that this be read on the plains of Arafat on the 9th day of Dhu al-Hijjah

The descendants of Ghalid Asady, Bashr and Basheer have quoted that during the last part of the day of Arafat, Imam Hussain (as) came out of his tent with a group of children and his followers, and with utmost humility and stood on Mount Arafat and recited this Dua.

Allama Majlisi and Shaykh Abbas Qummi have each mentioned this exemplary dua in both Bihar al Anwar and Mafatih al Jinan, respectively. There is a greatness surrounding the supplication of which the author is Aba Abdillah Al Hussein (as).

1. Prepare beforehand

Before reciting this dua, many scholars advise that the translation of the dua is read in order that the reader can adequately prepare themselves. This is necessary such that the reader can connect to the supplication on a spiritual level and can thus end the day purified from all sins.

2. Study the Dua

This dua is full of excellent mystical and ideological teachings, amongst those which can really touch the soul of the reader. Engaging in this state of heart and soul through studying the Dua is extremely beneficial and it is highly advised that the reader should do this.

3. Spirit and mindset

If this dua is read in a manner that is thought provoking and is read in a state of submission and tears, it is said powerful enough that it can change the life of a true believer. The dua has the ability to open up a path of wisdom, knowledge and practice that the reader can learn from and strive towards Allah (swt).

4. The banquet for all!

The beauty of this dua is that Allah (swt) invites all to take part in this worship because he yearns for his servants to submit to him through total sincerity, and those who submit are blessed with his mercy.

5. Selflessness

We are taught through the Holy Qur'an and Hadith about the art of selflessness, the ability to put others before yourself is an attribute that is highly regarded in Islam. Thus, during the recitation of such supplication, one should always remember the other muslim brothers and sisters around the globe who long for their duas to be heard, and our parents who tirelessly shower us with love.

6. Collective spirit

It is highly recommended to engage in group recitations of Dua's so that plea of the believers can be heard from a place of love and unity, it is said that if one person's dua is accepted in a gathering then subsequently everyone else who partakes in the gathering benefits from acceptance of their Dua's too.

7. Grasp the chance!

When Allah (swt) purifies a person from his sins, he consequently softens the heart of the recipient, ready to receive Allah's (swt) continuous shower of blessings. It is narrated that the Imam of our time is physically present on the plains of Arafat, amongst the believers. This day is a testament to Allah's (swt) infinite love towards us, he is giving us a second chance, after the nights of Qadr for forgiveness of our sins.

8. Ask for what is good for you, and surely Allah (swt) will grant that for you

This dua teaches us the best manner to ask and thank Allah (swt). All worldly needs come under the umbrella of asking for love of Allah (swt), love of the pure progeny of the Holy Prophet (saw), increase in Godly knowledge, sincerity of worship, honourable life and death, reappearance of the Imam of our time, dying the death of a Martyr and the like of such duas when done, one will obviously benefit from the worldly desires. Such are the aims Allah (swt) has for a believer so we should not limit our asking to material benefits rather both material and spiritual should be asked.

9. Hope with certainty that Allah (swt) holds the answer to your prayers.

The recitation of any Dua should make the reader feel as though they have been heard, Allah (swt) indeed promises to listen to the cries of his servants. Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:186 states

"And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided"

10. Little angels

The purity and innocence of a child is such that, their duas will always be answered. Be sure to encourage your family to partake in the recitation of this Dua, whether they are able to recite it themselves or they require an explanation of its meaning from you as a parent or guardian, be sure teach them.

11. Helplessness

Amongst the 3 generic general groups of people who require our supplications, namely; the sick, the oppressed and of course the ones who have passed, the one who supplicates must remember these groups. The qualifying individuals of these categories are described as helpless, and thus through sincerity of our cries and the purity of our intentions we must remember those who are helpless.

12. Pricelessness

If the dua is given as Hadiya to the imam of our time then all the shortcomings in between are filled up and the dua is made perfect by their generosity. The dua then can reach the reward for both the dead and alive at one time without reducing the reward of the reciter.

13. One world Order

Of the best things to ask is an Islamic government which even if not realised should be thought over and when this is done one will come to see what great benefits this has for one and all.  Of course the best of which will be when the Imam of our time will reappear but the prayers and struggle should always be there and the need to be felt. One way to start is to call all towards the good and try stopping one and all from evil by taking the first step himself.

Only the most perfect of all can be the giver to all!

Imam Hussain (as), in the continuation of His Dua, emphasizes the most perfect way of creation, through which Almighty Allah (swt) originated the universe and the creatures wonderfully with such precise intricacies.

The main reason behind this is Allah’s (swt) wisdom, because God, Himself, is the originator, donor, and giver of intellect and reason, logically, the giver of something must himself have that thing perfectly so that he could donate it to others.

His wisdom is not only in its origination but also in its sustaining. He knows how much to allocate to each of His creatures and what use it can be for them. He gives in perfect measure, for He is the most just of All.

There is no god other than Him, and there is nothing equivalent to Him, and nothing like a likeness of Him, and He is the All-hearing, the All-seeing, the All-gentle, the All-aware.
