ZCSS: Empowering women through education

Updated 6 November 2013

It is a common known fact that education plays a major role in the success of an individual.  However in many countries the gap between male and female literacy levels exists because women have been discouraged from receiving the same educational benefits as men.  Women also have less of an opportunity to pursue an education due to financial constraints, and often the males of the family are educated and the females are not.

Providing education to both males and females can have a huge impact on the development of a nation.  Through education, individuals regardless of gender have the power to make skilled, educated decisions, make better choices, and develop new ideas and concepts.  Through education women can pass down their knowledge and skills to their families, building a stronger, confident and independent family.   Educated women can also have an impact on the financial stability of a family unit, as she will also be able to join the work force and increase the standard of living for her family.

Through the support of ZCSS, Viquar a student from India has had the opportunity to pursue an education and she has successfully completed her Bachelor of Commerce Degree with excellent marks and is now pursuing a one year Pre-Primary Teachers Training course.

After her teachers training course Viquar will have the ability to support herself and her family as well as pass on the skills and knowledge to others around her.  Her education will open up doors of endless possibilities for her future.

Education is a powerful thing. When we educate a person, we give them the possibilities for their future. We give them both the tools and the spirit to change things around them for the better.

Viquar is one of the many girls that ZCSS is sponsoring, but there are many more who need support and assistance from donors like you.

There are currently over 7 billion people living on Earth, and the world illiteracy rate is just shy of 900 million people. The sad reality is that amongst these are thousands of children that have no hope of ever getting a chance to educate themselves or escape poverty.

We have heard the Chinese proverb “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” The same can be said about education.
