ZCSS Muharram Appeal: Give up one cup of coffee a day to provide a child an education

We have often heard, give up a cup of coffee to help a child, but do we do it?  Perhaps we think that such a small contribution won’t make a difference, or maybe we tell ourselves we will get to it but don’t or we tell ourselves someone else will do it so we don’t have to.

But what if you did?
It is a well-known fact that poverty is directly linked to lack of education.  Poverty has a direct correlation to access to education and lack of attendance in schools ~ especially in third world countries.

The numbers are simply staggering.  Did you know that:

- 134 million children between the ages of 7 & 18 have never been to school?
- 94% of the children who don’t attend school live in the developing world and many of these children are in the workforce?
- Less than 1% of what the world spends every year on weapons was needed to put every child in school by 2002?
- In 1998 $8 billion was spent on cosmetics in the USA , $7 billon on pet food in the USA and Europe and $780 billion on military worldwide, while it was estimated that $6 billion was needed to access basic education for all?

While we are debating over whether or not to have that extra shot of espresso in our latte, a father has to decide if he can send his son to school that day or send him off to the fields.  For families living in the depths of poverty, giving their child a chance at an education is the last thing on their minds, because they are not sure if they will have enough money to even feed themselves that day.

It is a devastating cycle that seems to see no end from one generation to the next.  But it does not have to be this way ~and oddly enough, it will only cost the equivalent of a coffee  a day.

Education is one of the main drivers for ending extreme poverty.  Just think if we all donated a coffee a day, we would be transforming lives today and for generations to come.

After all what’s a coffee a day?

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF A CHILD THROUGH EDUCATION FOR LESS THAN A $1 A DAY

ZCSS (Zainabiya Child Sponsorship Scheme) is an initiative of The World Federation started by Marhum Mulla Asghar and has been running for over 30 years. The World Federation of KSMIC’s education objective is to empower communities with the ability to become self-sufficient. The most efficient method of reducing illiteracy is through education. This sponsorship scheme supports young students in less advantaged Shia populated areas of the world in order for them to complete their education, ranging from Primary through to higher education.

Sponsoring a child through The World Federation’s Zainabiya Child Sponsorship Scheme (ZCSS) undoubtedly begins a domino effect that carries over ten fold.  When you help to educate a child, you are helping to educate a nation.  Let’s give access to education to everyone, because everyone deserves a chance to learn.

ZCSS has made a difference in the lives of thousands ~ but this would not be possible without the support of sponsors like you.

ZCSS works in Kenya, Tanzania, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Haiti. The scheme started with a humble few students and over the years has supported over 25,000 students, many of whom who have succeeded in changing their lives, the lives of their families and their communities.
