“Inspirational, Motivating and Gratifying”: A mentor recounts her Girls’ Youth Course 2014 experience (India Office)

As I contemplate on how to pen down my experience as a mentor for the recently concluded WF girls’ youth course, my thoughts run to the time when I was a little girl and yearned to go out and explore the world, similar to these girls who were bubbling with exuberance, vitality and an insatiable thirst for learning new things. My mentoring experience to these girls was exhilarating and a source of enlightenment.

I’m grateful to Allah (SWT) for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this noble cause of educating and grooming young minds. A big thank you, to the World Federation India Office, who decided to avail my services.

The course duration was concise and packed with a lot of activities for the young girls who accompanied us. The organisers did a wonderful job in making sure that the children are exposed to an assortment of topics both religious and social in nature. So while we had discussions on Namaz and Hijab, we also got an insight into importance of Diet and saving Time & Money among other things.

It was enriching to meet people from all walks of life who had come to share their experiences and impart knowledge. It was really heartwarming, that despite their achievements everyone was humble and down to earth, an important lesson for all of us to learn. However the highlights of the camp were the young girls and their immense pool of talent, I was amazed to see how a little encouragement and a window of opportunity helped the girls blossom and shine through.

The course was organised for the girls, to educate and nurture their talent, to reaffirm their beliefs in their religious duties, to teach them lessons in social behavior and congeniality, however it helped me learn important lessons of leadership, responsibility, adjustment and management. The religious topics discussed made me retrospect about its importance in my life.

So, to sum it up, my experience at the youth course was inspirational, motivating and gratifying especially after receiving wholesome love from the mentees. May Allah (swt) give me the taufiq to influence people in a positive way and be involved in work that brings me closer to His Being.
