Become Alawi 1440

#BecomeAlawi

This Shahr Ramadan marks 1400 years since the martyrdom of Ameer al-Mu’mineen (as).

Let each of us who are striving to live up to the title of ‘follower’ (Shia) of Imam Ali (as) take this opportunity to retrospect on how far we emulate the Imam in our character.

In other words, let’s take a moment to think deeply and ask ourselves “how much are we truly ‘Alawi’?”.

With the onset of the blessed month, let us pledge to make each day of this month count towards betterment and improvement of ourselves.

In our daily Mahe Ramadan series this year,  Shaykh Abbas Jaffer, Shaykh Muhammad Zakariya and Shaykh Ali Abbas Malik will be discussing and drawing lessons from different aspects of Imam Ali’s (as) blessed life.

If every day we can learn at least one lesson from Imam Ali (as) to implement in our lives, then we will have benefitted immensely from the spiritual banquet of this Holy month.

Join us on this journey towards becoming more like the Commander of the Faithful (as).

Together, let’s #BecomeAlawi.

What makes a leader? How should power be exercised over people? Is it okay for someone with authority to promote their own interests? Imam Ali (as) displays the characteristics required of a true leader and exemplifies the qualities that make him the one and only ‘Ameer al- Mu’mineen’.

When we turn the pages of early Islamic history, it is undeniably evident that in each victory achieved by the early Muslims, the hero was Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (as). Yet the medal of honour that Ameer al-Mu’mineen chooses to display is that of being an obedient slave of Allah (swt).

Two key elements of successful leadership are knowledge and piety. These cannot be attained by worldly pursuits, neither can they be replaced by riches and affluence. These are qualities of the soul and can only be achieved through obedience to Allah (swt) and perseverance against sins.
