Eid Mubarak Message from the President 2019

Salamun Alaykum my brothers and sisters, in Islam,

On behalf of The World Federation, I extend my deepest and most heartfelt Eid Greetings to all of our community members around the world.

As we celebrate this day of Eid, we first and foremost offer our thanks to our merciful Creator who has guided us and given us the strength to worship him during this Holy Month. May the Allah (swt) accept all our a’maals, and may He continue to give us the strength and tawfiq to carry on striving to attain closeness to Him for the rest of our lives. Ameen.

It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to this glorious month. During this month, we were part of the most beautiful days and the holiest nights where every small act of worship was magnified in the eyes of Allah (swt). Many of us gathered together to pray, spread knowledge, raise money for charity, and open iftar together. It was indeed a month of pure inner spiritual happiness.

Imam Zayn al-Abidin (as)  said the following when approaching the end of Ramadan:

"O Lord, Thou hast ordained Ramadhan to be one of the most chosen
.. .. ; and Thou hast distinguished it from all other months, and chosen it out of all other seasons and periods; and given it preference to all the times of the year, by having sent the Qur'an and the light of guidance in it, and by having increased the faith, and by having enjoined the observance of fast in it, and by encouraging us to stand up for prayer at night, and by placing in it the glorious 'Night of Qadr' which is better than a thousand months.

Therefore, in accordance with Thy command, we kept fast in its days, and with Thy help, we stood up for prayers in its nights; presenting ourselves, by means of its fasts and prayers, for Thy Mercy which Thou dist offer to us.

And, verily, this month of Ramadhan stayed amongst us a welcome stay; and gave us a righteous company; bestowing upon us the most excellent benefits in the universe. Now, it departs from us at the completion of its time.

Therefore, we bid it farewell as we did good-bye to one whose departure is hard upon us and makes us sad; and whose parting away makes us feel lonely."

From our Imam’s statement above let us take this time to reflect on our duas and use the good practices we have learnt to motivate us for the next year. The Holy month of spirituality was our time to reset ourselves and strive to become better Muslims for His sake.

The month of enhanced spirituality may be coming to an end, but we should resolve to continue the good practices of the month and strive to learn more about our faith. We have seen the need within our community to have easy-to-understand and comprehensive answers to pertinent issues. With that in mind, we have launched STEPSShi‘i Theology, Ethics and Practice Series, and the first topic in the series about Ilm-Ghayb will be available this week on Friday Inshallah. You can view the series promo trailer here

Alhamdullilah, we have had an astounding response from our community to our Ramadan Relief appeal so far. Our appeal is providing both immediate relief, in the form of long lasting and nutritious food packs, and long term support, in the form of training and equipment, to ensure we are empowering people to break free from the poverty cycle and making a lasting difference in their lives. Many people got involved in raising money for our Ramadan Relief. The youth in particular have been spearheading creative methods of fundraising which I am truly grateful for. My deepest gratitude goes out to all those who have organised and supported such efforts. These relief initiatives will be continuing via our longer term sustainable initiatives, so I urge you to continue to donate generously, and Insha’Allah together we can continue to make a difference. WF-AID is facilitating Zakat al-Fitrah payments for £5/$7 USD per person. Payments will be transformed into nutritious food items and distributed to families living in poverty across Africa and South Asia. You can read detailed information on Fitrah rulings here.

As you may be aware, The World Federation is proud to have permission from His Eminence al-Sayyid Ali al-Sistani (may God protect him) to collect khums payments on his behalf and to disperse the Sehme Imam part on religious projects, I am pleased to announce the release of our detailed report into khums expenditure for the year 2018. Our Treasurer team have worked hard to prepare this in a transparent and easy to understand manner, and along with our zero% admin policy, I hope this provides confidence in our ability to discharge this honourable duty.

During the last day of Ramadan, I pray to Allah to let us re-dedicate our life to the cause of humanity and serving others, which is most loved by Allah (swt). Let us direct all our positive energy in the coming year to strengthen a society which is built on mutual respect, brotherly love, and a high level of universal understanding between each one of us. Insha’Allah, lets us continue to strengthen our ties by coming together and praying together in order to reach spiritual purification.

And, in the end, let us pray to Allah (swt) in these words:

"O Lord, make us clean from our errors by the close of the month of Ramadan, and take us out of our sins when our fast comes to end. And bless us on this Eid day, the day of our festival and our break-fast; and let it be the best day, which passed over us, and forgive us our sins known and unknown."

Let us raise our hands together in dua and sincerely pray for the hasty reappearance of our awaited saviour, Imam al-Asr (atfs), the unity of the Ummah and peace and prosperity for all.

With salaams and duas,

Anwarali Dharamsi
