Mentor Development Program for India Youth Camp 2016

A two-day Mentor Development Program was organised by The World Federation in partnership with Khoja Shia IthnaAsheri Jamaat Mumbai. The program was on 28th and 29th May and it was held at the newly built Haji Nazerali Imambargah in Kurla, Mumbai. The Mentor development program was part of the preparations for the India Youth Camp.

The program was facilitated by Br. Shabbir Husein Khalfan from The World Federation Capacity Building Group and Br. Asad Virani from The World Federation. The core focus was to have an in depth understanding of mentoring, mentor-mentee relationships and the values of life.

The participants were comprised of 8 males and 8 females including a few who were Leadership Development Program Alumni (from the LDP which was organised in Mumbai in Feb-Mar 2015). Each participant was given a personal copy of the Mentor Development Handbook published by The Capacity Building Group, led by Dr. Akber Mohammedali. This handbook helped the participants in making notes and reflecting on the course content.

The 2 day program was filled with emotions, games and activities and was a new learning experience all together.

At the end of Day 1, Zahra Merchant commented "Today before I came, I kept thinking ‘what we will do the whole day?’. However, now I can say that it was a day well spent. Thank you for organising such brilliant sessions. Looking forward to tomorrow's sessions and how to develop myself as not just a mentor but also a friend to the campers"

Saifali Lokhandwala, commented "Great sessions!  I learnt a lot through all the activities and developed the skill sets that we learnt. Also very introspective as we see how our mistakes were unmasked during the activities."

"Special thanks to Br. Shabbir to have spared time from his busy schedule to facilitate this program. He has had a huge impact on the mentors which was clearly seen in them while they were mentoring the mentees at the camp." says Asad Virani, Manager of The World Federation India Office.
