Plan of Action from Global Education Forum 2014

The Global Education Forum was convened in the city of Dar Es Salaam on Saturday 17th May 2014, and brought together a total of 11 Community Schools from around the world with the aim of promoting networks and inter-school linkages, and to harness the power of collaborative working.  Participating schools hailed from Vancouver, Toronto, Brampton, Karachi, Reunion, Nairobi, Mombasa, Arusha, Bukoba, Dar Es Salaam and Madagascar.

Subsequent to this meeting, data collected of the available resources and best practices were collated together:

Group A:

  1. Inculcating religious values in the curriculum

  2. Business expertise

  3. Teachers training

  4. Structure Quran Program

  5. Shia Teachers

  6. Public Speaking

  7. Vision

  8. Time Management 

Group B:

  1. Focus on right people for the right jobs

  2. Motivating parents involvement

  3. 360 degrees feedback for principal and teachers for self-growth

  4. Teacher orientation and development plan

  5. Holistic learning of children

  6. Budget for staff development

 

Group C:

  1. Introduce French

  2. Help in financial development of schools

  3. Qualified MBTI practitioners

  4. IRE integration into the curriculum

Smart Objectives identified by the participants

The participants also identified objectives that they considered necessary for their schools to thrive and flourish. These are:

Policies / Procedures and Best Practices – Group A

  1. Unified Management Software which can be customized

  2. Value based accreditation council

  3. Outreach to non-Shia / Muslim to achieve a just system

Resources – Group B

  1. Incorporate use of technology by 2017 /18 – Schools classrooms to have digital projectors (already in place in Mombasa)

  2. Develop holistic learning framework by 2016 /17 (Mombasa is already putting it into practice)

  3. Child development psychology

  4. Teacher orientation and development plan by June 2017 (in practice by Jaffery Arusha and Mombasa I think)

  5. Focus on the right people for the right job – same as above

Human Resources Development – Group C

  1. PD qualified teacher on staff at all times

  2. School management software

  3. Peer Mentorship

  4. Qualified MBTI practitioners in schools by June 2015

SMART Objectives derived from the Forum on achievable goals

All delegates participating in the Forum agreed on some common resources required for each school to share and grow. Some of the achievable objectives have been tabulated below and each school has been requested to firstly ensure that the points listed are accurate and secondly prioritise at least one SMART Objective which they will implement at their school with immediate effect. 

Once each school has decided on the direction they want to head towards, The World Federation and the Education Board of Africa Federation will assist them to bring these objectives to fruition.

Brother Mahmood Dhala, Assistant Secretary of Education at The World Federation has identified a complete Information and Learning Management System for schools and Madaris prepared by Br. Abbas Akbar from Birmingham.  The World Federation and The Education Board of Africa Federation are looking into the intricacies of this software and a document highlighting all the functionality and the use of the system will be shared with all the participants in due course Inshallah.
