ZCSS success story: Achieving their dreams

Updated 18 September 2013

Education is the bridge that lets an individual cross from dreams to reality.  The Zainabiyya Child Sponsorship Scheme (ZCSS) helps build that bridge.  Through ZCSS, individuals can sponsor a student so that he/she may receive an education which they otherwise may not be able to afford.

Meet Ramadhan Dawa
In 2007, Ramadhan learned that students with good performance in the National exam would be sponsored for post primary / secondary education.  This motivated Ramadhan to work harder in order to earn the sponsorship and continue with his education, as his parents were unable to support all his expenses.

He attained good marks in his National exams and was able to join Joanne Chase Secondary School under the sponsorship of ZCSS.  Ramadhan said, “I thank Allah (SWT) and ZCSS for the sponsorship as I was not one of the students who was being sent back home for not having sufficient school fees.

In the year 2011, Ramadhan sat for his KCSE and acquired a grade of C+.  ZCSS further sponsored his higher education studies at Mombasa Polytechnic University College for the degree Program of Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics.  He is now in his second year.  On completion of this course, he wishes to pursue the Masters Programme in the same field.

The future
Once achieved, he will be in a position to secure a respectable job, which will help him support his family, assist his sister in pursuing her education and also allow him to pursue his Masters.  Ramadhan will be a role model for the community and will encourage his other brothers and sisters to continue their education.

Support ZCSS
Sponsoring a child through ZCSS undoubtedly begins a domino effect that carries over ten fold.  When you help educate a child, you are helping educate a nation.  Let’s give education to everyone, because everyone deserves a chance to learn.

Zainabiyya Child Sponsorship Scheme works in Kenya, Tanzania, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Haiti. We sponsor over 5000 students in six countries ranging from Kindergarten to University Education. It is a common known fact that education plays a major role in the success of an individual.  However in many countries the gap between male and female literacy levels exists because women have been discouraged from receiving the same educational benefits as men.  Women also have less of an opportunity to pursue an education due to financial constraints, and often the males of the family are educated and the females are not.
