This year, over two million people around the world will InshAllah flock to Iraq to commemorate Arbaeen. We share below reflections from one of the zawaars who will be going to Iraq this year and inshAllah undertake the walk from the Holy City of Najaf to the land of Karbala:
“In a day’s time, I’ll be leaving with a group of my family and friends, leaving behind everything familiar, to make this amazing trip to the land of my Imams (AS).
I cast my mind back remembering another time, another family who left their hometown, and everything they loved, to venture out into an unknown future. Except their fate was different. For Husayn and his family (AS), only the women and children were to return back. And this drives me on..

Alhamdulillah, I thank Allah (SWT) for giving me the wonderful opportunity to have been part of the Bab and Madinah Summer Courses in Iran 2014. Without any hesitation, I can easily say to sum up the trip, that it was the best experience of my life so far! The knowledge I gained has been very beneficial and hopefully is helping me reach my goal of spiritual perfection. The teachers who delivered lectures and lessons were all very knowledgeable and the content they shared with us was highly valued. |
Not only this, the factor which really differentiates this course from any other is the range of different activities we took part in. Not only was the trip a spiritual one, but we also had lots of fun: playing sports, visiting tourist sites, taking coach journeys and socialising with peers, who not only became my friends but a large, caring family. I strongly suggest everyone should apply for this once in a lifetime opportunity!
Leaving Iran after such an experience was the saddest feeling ever. The strong connection we had all built with Bibi Ma'sumah (as) and Imam Redha (as) was hard to depart from so we aim to maintain that relationship no matter how far away we are from them. However we were also leaving behind the new and unforgettable experiences as well as all of our friends. Overall, we felt as though we weren't departing to go home, rather we were departing from home.
I cannot, in words, even begin to thank and show my appreciation to all the teachers, mentors and organisers for all the unimaginable amount of effort they put in to making this course as successful as it was. The mentors on the trip were very cooperative, they were easy to approach and they made the course fun for all of us.
In summary, I think the course was worth every penny and more! I don't think a price can be put on building a relationship with Bibi Ma'suma (as) and Imam Redha (as). I pray that Insha'Allah everyone gets the opportunity to indulge in such a course and have the unforgettable experiences I had.
