My Dear community members,

Salaamun Alaykum,

Alhamdullilah, the past few weeks have been hectic but with the support and cooperation of mo’meneen the world over, it has been a pleasant time. You may have read about our recent trip to India on our website and social media pages. This was a great opportunity for us to meet people and hear incredible stories about our heritage. Soon after, I went to Montenegro to see the potential investment opportunities for our community there, which is growing rapidly. It is a beautiful country and a real eye opener to appreciate Allah’s vast bounties.

As I write this, we have just finished a successful AFED triennial conference in Dar-es-Salaam and now, accompanied by the CBB Chairman, Mohsinbhai Lalji, & other well-wishers, I am visiting Bilal centers in Kigoma region & other areas before proceeding to Mombasa for our Executive Council meeting. Alhamdulillah the quality and standards of our Bilal centers are much improved and we now need to focus on their education and economic empowerment needs. This will ensure the long term sustainability of these communities.

We have decided to go on a slightly different route for this coming Exco meeting in Mombasa and preparations for this are well underway. We are taking more of a strategic approach and will have papers presented on various topics, including social issues affecting our community. I think it is very important we talk about these issues, which many people in our community are faced with on a regular basis and work on an effective way to combat them.

In February, I met with the rest of the office bearer team to discuss our plan going forward until the end of our term in May 2017. These discussions included working out the best way for the organisation to meet the growing needs of our community as well as others in need. Whilst we are a community organisation, much of the relief work we do also involves work with other communities and collectively, we agree that this is also a substantial part our work which gives our community an opportunity to serve humanity. The outcome of this team meeting was that while we will continue to focus and concentrate to work inwards for our community under the banner of The World Federation, the external relief work will be operated under 'WF Aid' under the international relief department. This is just an internal logistic arrangement to ensure that we are able to expand in both areas and at the same time give deserving attention to both. I personally feel, as do the rest of the team, that this will allow us to offer much more to both our community and the others we work with. I am keen to get your thoughts on this, so please do get in touch with your feedback.

If you are in Mombasa during our executive council meeting, I sincerely hope you come along to the sessions, as my team and I always enjoy meeting community members and hearing your thoughts and suggestions, from which we learn a lot, so that we can continue to work together for the betterment of our community. We can only succeed by working together in a spirit of unity and ikhlas. We exist to serve and need your support and duas to deliver our programs and projects.

With salaams & duas,

Dr Asgar Moledina
