Pakistan Relief Fund: Monsoon rains cause devastating floods affecting over 800,000 people

On 21 July 2015, heavy monsoon rains resulted in extreme flash floods across various Provinces and regions in Pakistan. The downpour caused rivers to overflow to the point where entire villages were submerged in water leaving thousands of people homeless.

 According to Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority, this disaster has affected more than 800,000 people across 2,275 villages, damaging and/or destroying over 2,900 homes nationwide.

  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Province – in the city of Chitral, flood waters destroyed several bridges, homes, mosques, hotels and a power station;
  • Gilgit-Baltistan Province - 175 villages and over 600 houses were entirely or partly damaged impacting about 136,000 people here;
  • Punjab Province – the southern region of Punjab province was badly hit by flood waters; families living in Bhakkar, Layyah and Rajanpur are pleading for help;
  • Sindh Province – More villages in Sindh were hit where families living in Larkhana, Mehar, Pano Aqil, Ghotki and Manjhand were devastated and are also asking for help.

THE WORLD FEDERATION’S RESPONSE

The World Federation has donated USD $5,000 for emergency relief to the flood affected areas in Pakistan.  Working in collaboration with our partner on the ground, food rations will be delivered to the flood victims who have lost their homes and their belongings.

Our agent in Pakistan reported:  “People in the flood hit areas have lost their standing crops, livestock and shelters. We have been distributing food rations to the displaced families, however, there are many more families living under the open sky waiting for emergency food relief, tents and medicine.”

PAKISTAN RELIEF FUND – PLEASE DONATE

The World Federation has already sent USD $5,000 to assist in the immediate aid efforts in Pakistan. However, more donations are needed to provide food, water and shelter to the flood affected areas. The World Federation is appealing to community members around the world to donate to the Pakistan Relief Fund. Your donation will save lives and bring comfort to distressed families.
