The World Federation of KSIMC

The Global Education Forum was convened in the city of Dar es Salaam  on Saturday 17^th May 2014, and brought together a total of 11 Community Schools from around the world with the aim of promoting networks and inter-school linkages, and to harness the power of collaborative working.  Participating schools hailed from Vancouver, Toronto, Brampton, Karachi, Reunion, Nairobi, Mombasa, Arusha, Bukoba, Dar es Salaam and Madagascar.

The Vice Chairman of the World Federation, Br. Munawer Ratansey, honoured the event with his warm welcome note to the participants. He stressed on the historic nature of the gathering and the importance  for Schools to forge closer working relationships across boundaries. 

The event was then taken forward by Br. Tehsin Takim, Vice Chairman of Africa Federation Education Board and also a co-facilitator of the forum. Tehsin introduced the main agenda of the forum and stated the key objectives that the forum would focus on, with emphasis given to Organizational Improvement, Innovation in Education and Building ‘people power’.

The floor was taken over by the Honorary Secretary of Africa Federation Education Board Sis. Shama Dewji, a seasoned facilitator and trainer, who took the participants on a journey of discussion and dialogue through her innovative brainstorming techniques, which ensured all participants remained actively engaged through the various group discussions that ensued.

Participants were challenged, through the three working groups,  to come up with two key objectives, that would take Community Schools to a higher level of professionalism, benchmarked against criteria known as SMART (Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Realistic, Timebound).  The key objectives that came out at the top of the list were as follows:

Group A  (Policies/Procedures and Best Practices)

•Value based international accreditation council for our schools (similar to CIS,ISO,IB,Q Fatima) to get unified standards for all Community Schools.  Full implementation and compliance by 2024.

•Unified management software which could serve all schools globally and adapted locally.  Implementation by 2017.

Group B (Sharing of resources /innovation in teaching methods) 

•Increase use of technology in the classroom.  Specifically through the creation of an online learning portal for teachers around the world to share successful lesson plans/resources, and for students to access relevant educational materials.  Implementation by 2017.

•Establishing holistic learning framework by all schools and focus on academic/social/spiritual/emotional/physical – to be done through professional development team by 2017

Group C (Human Resources- upgrading skills amongst existing staff and management)

•Train staff in MBTI/Psychology of learning by June 2015. 

•Teacher Exchange Programs – starting regionally with long term aim of going global.  Implementation can start immediately. 

ards of the World Federation and Africa Federation have undertaken a commitment to work as the Secretariat for this Forum and assist schools with required resources to bring the above objectives to fruition.  However, the ownership and actual implementation of the objectives will remain firmly in the domain of each individual school.
