Studying in Australia
During EXCO Hussein Hussein – President of Federation of Australasia communities (FAC) presented to us how students can apply to study in Australia.
His speech covered the following points:
Why Australia?
Australia has six states.
You just need a common student visa to study at any of these destinations.
Worldwide recognised education.
Multicultural environment.
High employability after studies.
Earn while studying.
Easier to settle after studies
Australian Education System
University is the highest level of study in Australia.
There are 43 universities in Australia.
You can study at the undergraduate level (Bachelor Degree);
Or postgraduate level (Graduate Certificate, Diploma, masters, PhD).
Generally there are two intakes (February and July).

Working in Australia
Part Time Work:
Students are allowed to work part time on their student visa.
Maximum 20 hours per week and 40 hours per week during vacations.
Full Time Work:
Students have to start applying for jobs as soon as they have settled down with the course they are about to undertake.
Universities provide career services.
Post Study Work Visa (Temporary Visa)
18 months temporary visa.
For overseas students with an Australian qualification obtained in Australia after at least two (2) years of study.
Allows applications who are unable to pass the Permanent Resident (PR) points test to remain in Australia for 18 months to gain the skills and experience needed.
Tuition Costs
As an international student, you must pay your tuition fees up-front.
University fees for undergraduate courses range from AUD $14,000 to AUD $35,000 per annum.
University fees for postgraduate courses range from AUD $15,000 to AUD $36,000 per annum.
Students may also be required to purchase essentials such as books, stationery, lab coats, etc.
The institution you will apply to, will provide you with information on how and when to pay your tuition fees.
Living Expenses
The Australian Government specifies a minimum AUD $20,000 required to cover living costs for a 12-month period.
High level budget a week (all values in AUD):
Shared house rent can range anywhere from $120-$300.
Groceries/eating out: $130.
Phone/Internet/Gas/Power: $40-$50.
Public transport: $40.
Entertainment/miscellaneous: $40.
