On 26 January 2014, students (ages 4 to 16) and staff of the Shia Ithna’Asheri Madressa (SIM) of Hujjat Stanmore united to fundraise to help Syrian refugees affected by the ongoing conflict.
Last year, the Madressa administration decided that in addition to treating the students to something special in celebration of Milad-un-Nabi (birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet (S) and Imam Jaffer Sadiq (as)), they would asked the students to perform an act of kindness where children in need could benefit from. This initiative would also bring about an awareness of the struggles so many children around the world face on a daily basis. The students were encouraged to donate 50p towards a relief fund. Participation in this event was voluntary.
This year, students willingly contributed £1 each and chose to support The World Federation’s Syrian Refugees Fund. Their goal was to raise £1,000 in one day and to their surprise, they were successful in raising a total of £1,412.30.
On 16 February 2014, the Shia Ithna’Asheri Madressa invited The World Federation to accept their donation. Anisa Kanji, Head of International Relief and Development attended this special occasion and made a short presentation on The World Federation’s ongoing work to support Syrian Refugees and the difference this donation will make in the lives of so many children living in fear and poverty.
Shia Ithna’Asheri Madressa commented: “It was endearing to see the fact that many students gave more than £1, bearing in mind that the Madressa has 950 students, we exceeded the expected amount of £950 by a further £500 which shows the generosity of our students and staff members in giving for worthy causes and the level of encouragement by parents for their children to give.”
The World Federation takes this opportunity to sincerely thank the students, staff and administration of the Shia Ithna’Asheri Madressa of Hujjat Stanmore for opening their hearts in support of the Syrian Refugee Appeal. Every day, children are suffering in so many different ways and this donation will go a long way in providing them with basic essential such as food, water, healthcare and education. Organising such programs are instrumental in promoting humanitarian values as taught to us in the Holy Qur’an and through the teachings of the Ahlul Bayt (as). We thank the Madressa administration for their visionary thinking. We pray to Allah (swt) to accept all of your wonderful efforts both in this world and in the Hereafter and may He increase His Blessing and Guidance upon each one of you.
