| | Ramadhan Relief in Iraq has started where food baskets have been prepared and are being distributed to families. The World Federation has sent a member of its own team to Iraq to assist with Ramadhan Relief efforts as well as to assess the overall humanitarian needs in the region. This week, our team member wrote to us about ‘Ramadhan in Mosul’. Here is what he had to say: |
“There are moments in which one is humbled and inspired at the same time. This was an experience I had during one of our distributions where we gifted refrigerators, air conditioners and freezers to some of Iraq’s Internally Displaced People who arrived in Najaf.
Here we met families who had never used any of these appliances in their lives. There were some families who had never needed to store food; in fact, it was surprising to them to have surplus food, to be able to plan and know for certain that there would be food tomorrow.
To see their amused and delighted faces was a privilege. This Ramadhan has opened our eyes to the simple life that is lived by so many of our brothers and sisters. It also has shown me what we take for granted such as a meal - today, tomorrow and every day after that. This is a basic human right yet for many families food is a privilege and such a struggle to get some.

How apt that this experience took place during the week in which humanity lost one of its great leaders, Imam Ali (as), the commander of the faithful who would spend his days and nights feeding and caring for orphans and the needy in this very city. It is difficult to see so many orphans and widows living in poverty. Yet, there is hope for them and for their future.
Donations made to the Ramadhan Relief Fund is helping to feed our brothers and sisters as well as assisting them in improving their lives that have been affected by war and poverty. We pray to the Almighty that our efforts will change their lives and the future generations,, Insha’Allah.”
