Having had the opportunity of going on Ziyarat to Iran before I was once again blessed with going, however this time, I was blessed to join the 2013 Madinah and Bab course as a mentor for the first time. Upon reflection on my experience, a question came to my mind about this Ziyarat experience in particular, why was it so special? I realized first and foremost that having been called back to both Bibi Masooma e Qum and Imam Raza (as) respectively is enough for me to say I had a truly uplifting experience and personal growth. Furthermore, what made this experience so special was interacting with the caliber of people around me from the diverse range of Sheikhs, fellow mentors and inspirational Mentees. What topped it of for me was having the opportunity to mentor our legendary youths whilst on Ziyarat. The added dimension of being able to visit the haram allowed the participants to develop themselves spiritually, focus and look deeper within them enabling their development. Furthermore, the Islamic knowledge base all the participants had was something to be admired.

A question I commonly posed to my fellow mentors and mentees of the 2013 group and previous groups is "what was so special about the whole experience". The answer from all of them was the same; "the brothers I have made, the laughs and the positive change".
I could go on and on in listing the inspirational experiences, however what really stood out during my experience last year was seeing the evolving relationships the participants had with their 8th Imam, Ali ibn Musa Ar-Redha (as) and Bibi Masooma (as) and the expression of their love for the purified Ahlulbayt (AS). Furthermore, what made last years’ experience unique and extra special was having many exceptional Quran, dua, manqabat and noha reciters (all being participants!). The continuous and spontaneous Jashans were uplifting and inspirational to say the least, and the key moments not to be forgotten was reciting the beautiful Dua Tawasul in Masjid e Jamkaraan and Dua Nudbah after Fajr on top of a mountain with the sun rising – it was truly something different from the norm.
My words do not do justice to the whole camp and the overall experience. I encourage all my fellow youth to come and experience it for yourself and give yourself the opportunity to undergo this spiritual journal of personal growth and development! You will certainly realize what you’ve missed out all along when you come to experience it yourself!
