The World Federation’s India Office along with Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Jamaat Mumbai organised a vacation competition for students by the name of IQRA.
Our Khoja community is one of great success and triumph and just recently, two members of our community were recognised for their incredible achievements. The first is Mohammed Dewji, who you may remember being asked to vote for in the Forbes Africa Person of the Year awards. He won this by a landslide and received his award late last year.

Mohammed is involved in many different aspects of business, politics and philanthropy. Living in Tanzania, he is CEO of METL, a Tanzanian conglomerate his father founded in the 1970s. He has his own brand of drink called ‘Mo Cola’ which competes with Coca Cola in Africa. He retired from government in 2015 having completed two terms. He also created the Mo Dewji Foundation which provides scholarships for underprivileged Tanzanian children. This year, he also received the Philanthropist of the Year Award for the East African region by All Africa Business Leaders Awards and Business Leader of the Year Award by African Business Magazine after previously being named as one of the top 100 young economic leaders and one of the top 10 most powerful leaders in Africa both last year. InshAllah his success will continue through this new year and many to come.

The second is Naushad Noorali Merali from Kenya who received an honorary degree from Kabarak University and is now an Honorary Doctor of Business Leadership. He is the CEO and is Chairman of the Board of Sameer Investments Ltd and serves on several governmental and charitable bodies in Eastern Africa. He is the founder of the Kenyan mobile service provider Kencell along with French media giant Vivendi. He has brought commercial development in Kenya for more than 30 years and is constantly expanding his businesses throughout East Africa. This is another fantastic achievement both for him personally and for our community as a whole.

We pray for their continued success inshAllah.
