As our children head back to school after the long summer break, the start of a new academic year is often one many look forward to – it is an opportunity to meet friends, start in a new class and learn lots of new and exciting things!
Many children living in the rural areas of Kenya only have a single meal a day. The excessive poverty level, the rising rate of inflation, and the lack of adequate rainfall all make it very difficult for parents to provide a balanced meal 3 times a day for their children.
Today, you can make a huge difference to improve the physical and psychological health of a hungry child by making a donation to The World Federation’s ‘Fill My Cup – Back to School Campaign’ For only $3 USD-CAD / £2 GBP per month, you can make sure that a child receives a nutritious cup of hot porridge at school.
The porridge is made from bulrush millet flour, milk and sugar and is cooked by community volunteers. This supplement has attracted students to attend classes and improve their academic learning. Parents and teachers have noticed improvements in the students’ behaviour and learning at school. Here are some testimonials:
PARENT OF 7 YEAR OLD CHILD
“I have 4 children. Since this food program started, my child is doing well in his studies and is attending classes more regularly. I pray to Allah (swt) to give you strength in providing us this program. Thanks.”
PARENT OF 12 YEAR OLD CHILD
“I do not earn enough money to feed my child breakfast. I can only afford to provide his lunch and dinner. This program has really helped us. For this I pray that the program continues and that Allah (swt) gives the donors more rewards in every way. Thanks.”
PARENT OF 14 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER
“I am a farmer. Sometimes the crop I sow is destroyed and this means I cannot feed my family. At least with this program, I know my daughter will get one meal for sure.”
FILL MY CUP ‘BACK TO SCHOOL’ CAMPAIGN
The World Federation’s ‘Fill My Cup – Back to School Campaign’ addresses child hunger by providing a hot cup of nutritional porridge for breakfast to deserving children across 15 schools in Kenya. Since the launch of this appeal in 2011, The World Federation has filled over 50,000 cups with hot porridge!
For only $3 USD-CAD / £2 GBP per month per child, you can make sure that each of these children is served a nutritious cup of porridge every morning before they begin their school day.
This year, as our eager students in Kenya get ready to go back to school, let us support them so that they can work hard to the best of their ability. For these children, a good breakfast really does mean a good future.

Already, too few dams exist to contain rainwater and millions of gallons flow out to sea each year. In 2010 and 2011 alone, it was reported that nearly 18 million gallons of water streamed out to sea. Today, millions of Pakistanis have no access to clean drinking water and farmers don’t have enough irrigation water to grow good crops.
