Dear Mr Ambassador
Peace be upon you
I am writing to you on behalf of The World Federation of Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Muslim Communities, an umbrella organization representing our worldwide community to express our deep concern and disappointment at the brutal killing and burning of minority Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. The massacre has left hundreds raped and murdered, villages burnt and many hundred thousand displaced. The images seen on the media are horrific, shocking and appalling. The security operation targeting Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar ‘seems a textbook example of ethnic cleaning’ according to the UN human rights chief, who has urged Myanmar to end the ‘cruel military operation’ in Rakhine state.
It is a basic human right that members of all faith groups should be free to practice their beliefs without fear of violence or persecution. Understanding and respect for different faiths is an important part of today’s global society. The atrocities being carried out in your country of majority Buddhists is against the grains and beliefs of the Buddhist teachings.
We join other institutions and governments in condemning mass killings and moving of the innocent Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine state and urge the government of Myanmar to end its current cruel military operation, bring the perpetrators to justice and reverse the pattern of discrimination against the Rohingya Muslims.
Regards
Shan E Abbas Hassam
