Pakistan Relief: The World Federation builds 14 new homes - Punjab, Pakistan

14 NEW HOMES

Thanks to the support of donors who continue to donate to the Pakistan Relief Fund, The World Federation funded the construction of 14 new homes across 13 villages in Tehsil Ahmedpur Sial in Pakistan’s Punjab province. All 14 homes were completed in March 2015. The Pakistan Relief Fund provides short, medium and long term support to families in Pakistan who are affected by poverty and natural disasters including floods which have displaced thousands of families.

Our partner in Pakistan who managed the construction reported:  “We are highly grateful to the Almighty for having given us the opportunity to house homeless families who were affected by the 2014 floods in Pakistan’s District Jhang.  Most of the villages here suffered major destruction where families lost their homes and became displaced. They were forced to live in ragged tents, amid dangerous rubble, alongside livestock and even under the open sky.”

14 families comprising 68 men, women and children (including widows) have benefited from the new homes that were gifted to them. Each home includes one room (size 12ft. x 15ft.) and a washroom (5 ft. x 6 ft.).  The cost of building one house was $1,155 USD / £750 GBP.

A special ceremony was held to hand over the keys to the beneficiary families. It was wonderful to see the elderly along with the children and their parents smiling after so many months of hardship. They prayed for all of the donors who made this possible.

MESSAGES FROM 2 BENEFICIARY FAMILIES

“There was a horrible flood in 2014. It washed away most of the homes in our village. Our women and girls had no privacy. There was nobody to help us except Allah (swt) and the Ahlul Bayt (as). We are thankful to all those people who provided us with food rations, tents and blankets. Now, they have constructed permanent shelters for us. We are thankful for this gift and pray to Allah (swt) to accept their services.”

“There was a devastating flood last year. Two of my homes were demolished. My 5 children and I went to stay with our relatives and this was very difficult for all of us. I am a labourer and try hard to provide for my family. No other organisation came to help us after the flood. We are thankful from the core of our hearts that new homes were constructed for us to relieve us of our painful hardships. However, there are still many other families who are homeless and are hopeful that new homes will be built for them as well.”

"Stepping foot into a new country, a new culture, without the guidance of my parents would have been a scary experience, had we not been welcomed into the open arms of our mentors. Being a part of the Madinah and Bab al Ilm family I had the time of my life. I can never do the course justice in explaining my experiences but I'll try. Being on this course in Iran felt like a home away from home, I rarely missed my family as our exciting schedule kept us busy. From climbing Mount Khizr, to our early morning twilight sessions, the course always had us on our feet and moving.
