Kenya is one of the world’s 30 poorest countries, with more than half the country’s population living below the poverty line. In Northeast Kenya, this is especially the case where there is twice the relative poverty headcount and people suffer from poor infrastructure, low literacy and limited access to health care.
What goes in our food parcels?
Every Ramadan, the Ramadan Relief Fund distributes food parcels to numerous countries around the world. Each parcel contains enough good quality food to feed a family of four for the whole Holy month of Ramadan.
The contents of the parcel include a combination of the following (specific combinations/quantities vary by country):
- Rice
- Sugar
- Tea
- Cooking oil
- Maize flour
- Wheat flour
- Dates
- Meat
- Lentils
- Salt
- Pasta
- Tomato paste
- Beans
- Milk powder
- Jam
- Rose Syrup
- Vegetables
- Vermicelli
- Juice
